Lake Merritt Cleanup

For the last few years, the Piedmont Key Club has been working with the Lake Merritt Institute in an effort to control the trash content of Lake Merritt. On selected Saturday mornings, Piedmont Key Club volunteers scour the shores of Lake Merritt, removing cigarette butts, Styrofoam wastes, the occasional carcass, and other miscellaneous trash from the lake. Our efforts with the Lake Merritt Institute have culminated in a documentary, produced by members of the Piedmont Key Club about the situation of urban runoff in Lake Merritt.

Friends of Sasual Creek

The Friends of Sausal Creek (aka FOSC, or "the Friends") are a group of residents, teachers, students, merchants, and elected officials working together with the City of Oakland and County of Alameda to improve the Sausal Creek watershed. We worked with “the Friends” on restoration workdays, where members sowed native plant species, helped out with various errands at the plant nurseries, and cleaned up at regional parks, removing invasive species and trash.
